The Egyptian Presidency declared that Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed the latest developments concerning the peace issue in the Middle East with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh today.

President El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt promotes all efforts for achieving peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution and international resolutions in a way that contributes to keep security and prosperity in the region.

El-Sisi also indicated the importance of international support for the Egyptian reconstruction efforts in the Palestinian territories as well as the importance of maintaining the truce between the Palestinians and Israelis.

El-Sisi and Bennet also discussed Egyptian-Israeli bilateral ties in all fields in addition to the recent developments regionally and internationally.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, Egyptian General Intelligence Service Chief Abbas Kamel, head of the Israeli National Security Council Eyal Hulata, Military Secretary to the Israeli PM Avi Gil, Senior Advisor to the Israeli PM Shimrit Meir, and Israeli ambassador to Cairo Amira Oron attended the meeting.

Earlier in May an Egyptian-sponsored ceasefire agreement was reached under the auspices of Egypt between Israel and the Palestinian factions to end 11 days Israeli military aggression on the Gaza Strip.

 The 11-day assault by Israel was considered the fiercest since 2014 that Israel launching artillery and air strikes in reply to rocket attacks on Israeli towns from the Strip that is controlled by Hamas.

It’s worth mentioning that the Israeli attack killed more than 250 Palestinians, including 66 children, left more than 1,900 injured, and destroyed hundreds of commercial and residential buildings, while the death toll in Israel stood at 13.

It was stated that this is the first visit by Bennett to Egypt as prime minister, as well as the first visit by an Israeli Prime Minister in general to Egypt, since 2011.
