The first section of a large new LNG plant destined for the Arctic Circle was loaded onto a cargo ship at the Daishan manufacturing base in Zhejiang Province on Thursday 28th of August.

The 10,000-ton unit will reach Murmansk in northwestern Russia within 25 days. With 13 more units to follow, they will form the Arctic LNG 2 (ALNG2) project, the world’s largest LNG plant in the Arctic Ocean region.

The project is being developed by Novatek, Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer.

The plant will operate in the Yamalo-Nenets, Autonomous Region in Western Siberia, known for mineral resources such as more than 40 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, which represents 85% of Russia’s natural gas reserves and 37% of the world’s reserves.

The ALNG2 plant will have three LNG production lines with an annual capacity of 6.6 million tons per line. The Chinese company Wison Offshore & Marine (WOM) is producing 150,000 tons of units for the construction of the plant.

The construction of the first section, that will be shipped and delivered via two vessels, had begun in December 2019. Working on the construction of the second Section started on15 July 2020 and it’s expected to last for 20 months, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning and loading of the cargo ship.
